The Opportunity:
If you want to join an exciting and expanding insurance business, with an energised leadership team and a top-flight tech platform, revolutionising the way DUA business is transacted through the Lloyd’s and London market, then read on.
With a rapidly expanding company, we are searching for Syndicate Performance Analyst.
About Us:
Carbon Underwriting is a new approach for the market. We are a specialist, independent, class agnostic Managing General Underwriter (MGU) writing to a mix of third-party capacity and our own Syndicate CBN 4747.
We are a young, dynamic company and recognise the importance of embracing modern technology to deeply enrich our offering. Without the baggage of legacy systems and mindsets, we’re building a next-generation analytics platform to service the needs of both internal employees and external clients.
The Opportunity:
We're looking for a commercially minded analyst with strong data presentation and business partnering skills to join our growing InsurTech team. This role sits at the intersection of underwriting, business analytics, and insurance performance — ideal for someone with 1–3 years of experience who thrives in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
The Syndicate Performance Analyst plays a key role in monitoring, analysing, and enhancing the financial and operational performance of Carbon’s syndicate. This role combines technical financial understanding with commercial insight to support strategic decision-making, planning cycles, and regulatory reporting.
While the role will initially focus on this area, there is significant potential for growth across the business. Our team brings deep expertise in all areas of technology, and previous team members have gone on to become software engineers and actuaries at Carbon.
Key Responsibilities
Performance Monitoring & Analysis
- Analyse the financial performance of the syndicate, including combined ratios, investment income, and capital efficiency.
- Track actual vs. plan performance across premium, claims, expenses, and technical result.
- Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual MI packs for executive, board, and Lloyd’s returns.
Syndicate Planning & Forecasting
- Support the annual Lloyd’s business planning process, including setting underwriting plans, capital requirements, and outwards reinsurance assumptions.
- Assist in developing quarterly and in-year forecasts for the syndicate’s performance metrics.
- Maintain and improve the planning models and support scenario analysis for stress testing.
Data Insight & Decision Support
- Investigate drivers of performance variances and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Translate technical performance outputs into actionable recommendations for underwriters and management.
- Work cross-functionally with underwriting, finance, claims, and exposure teams.
Lloyd’s Reporting & Governance
- Contribute to regulatory returns and Lloyd’s reporting requirements (e.g., QMB, PMD, QSR, SBF).
- Ensure data accuracy, audit readiness, and compliance with Lloyd’s performance management principles.
- Support the syndicate in responding to Lloyd’s requests and managing agent oversight.
About You
- 1–3 years of experience working within the Lloyd’s / London Markets, ideally within a managing agent, syndicate, or actuarial consultancy.
- Solid understanding of insurance KPIs and Lloyd’s planning/reporting cycles.
- Proficient with at least one BI tool (Looker, Power BI, Tableau, etc.) and capable of building productionised dashboards.
- Comfortable working with data sets; SQL essential, Python desirable.
- Able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Curious, commercially aware, and eager to work in a collaborative, startup-style environment.
